Getting Some Offsite Protection

I've been looking for a solution to provide an offsite storage drop for my data that I keep on my NAS. I recently purchased a FreeAgent Pro 750G external drive and tonight I configured the NAS's front-side 'backup' button to run two jobs for me. Now, when I plug in the USB drive and push the button, the NAS will automatically make a full backup of two of the RAIDed shares. I can then disconnect the drive and take it offsite. Periodically I'll bring back the drive for a fresh backup minimizing my loss due to fire or theft.

Setting up the drive was a snap and configuring the jobs through the NAS's web interface was ultra-simple. The USB 2.0 connection is not blindingly fast for bulk downloads but it seems to be chunking right along. For the simplicity of the setup, I'm very happy with the results.

You Learn Something New Every Day

There's a 'safety sign' on the bulletin board in the canteen area at work regarding how to treat a victim of seizure. From the bullet points, I'm apparently not supposed to do a lot of things but most noteworthy, I'm not supposed to:

  • Yell in their face
  • Slap them
  • Throw cold water in their face

It doesn't mention throwing other various fluids in their face so maybe that's okay?! Hot coffee? Tea? What the heck? Do people routinely try to help by abusing the victim and need to be reminded that that behavior runs counter to what would otherwise be considered appropriate?

Dear Mega Dumper...

After almost a full work week of coping with using a bathroom containing an incredibly fouled and non-functional toilet...the cleaning crew (or someone) finally cleaned it out and at some point this note was left taped to the wall in the men's bathroom at work:
