My Violin Journey: One Year Anniversary

My violin lesson last night marked the one year anniversary of my journey of learning to play as an adult. Noah and I share the same teacher so we're both progressing through the Suzuki books. He's way ahead of me and well on his way to completing book IV and I have no aspirations of trying to catch up with him. However, last night I did pass Waltz from Book II and I should be able to pass Bourrée next week. I've gotten previews for Two Grenadiers and I've been tasked with learning the rest of the piece for next week as well (I won't pass that for another week or two).

At times my pace feels glacial. I struggle with tone quality, consistency, bow vibrations, etc. But, I have to keep telling myself that that's normal. That's why it's called learning silly. On the other hand, I'm proud of myself for sticking to it for a year and practicing regularly (30 to 45 minutes every day). I miss a day of practice here and there (on Game Nights yahoo!) but I truthfully make time to play every day. My teacher says I'm progressing very quickly so that does make me feel better about my current foibles. I honestly don't mind practicing and look forward to playing and getting better. Rarely does it feel like just another chore on the To Do list and for that I'm grateful.
