A Salty Dog

Thank you, Ohio Department of Transportation, for the road salt on the Mini. If you think the bonnet looks bad you should see the sides and the boot.

Yikes! Watch the salt! It'll be "Rust City" before you know it! Move to the West Coast. We use sand!

On a related note, did you know that George Harrison was a huge fan of the Mini Cooper? That was his car of choice when he needed to drive around the streets of London and elsewhere.

I spray it off at the "Do It Yourself" place regularly to keep the salt to a minimum but it's hard to keep up this time of year. I only hand wash the car so winter is a rough time.

I didn't know GH was fond of the Mini. The only odd-ball fact I know about him was that he basically personally funded the making of Monty Python's Life of Brian when the money dried up days before filming started. From Wikipedia:

The film would not have been made without George Harrison, who set up Handmade Films to help fund it at a cost of £3 million, after the subject matter scared off the original backers, EMI Films, and particularly Bernard, Lord Delfont.

Yeah, I knew that. Harrison loved Monty Python, as well as the pre Python Goon Show, among others. Let's face it, British comedy pretty much rules.

As to the Mini Cooper, in the documentary mini series "Anthology", there's footage of George racing his Mini Coops around on various race tracks. Maybe you could make a trip to Indy Speedway...

I grew up in northern Indiana and the Indy 500 was a staple of our Memorial Weekends (i.e. on radio & television). I just can't see myself ever wanting to go out on a track with the Mini. It might get damaged!

Well, there is all that crashing, burning, and dying too...
