Pros & Cons - Mr. & Mrs. Smith...and the kids?!!!

Pros & ConsMy friend Ken is a bachelor tonight and tomorrow night and decided to organize a movie night. I tagged along and we ended up at the cheap theatre tonight to see Cinderella Man and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

I really liked Cinderella man...a lot. If you're only going to see one boxing movie, I'd pitch Million Dollar Baby and see this one.

15 minutes after that got out, I spent another whopping $1.50 to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith. A silly, yet entertaining movie...but nothing after seeing Cinderella Man. The rough part though was that the movie didn't start until 9:45pm and just before the show started, a man and woman arrived with two very young kids, maybe 6 and 8. At times I found it hard to enjoy because I kept thinking about the kids in the next row watching Brad Pitt give Angelina Jolie some body slams while shooting people ad infinitum. Having it all culminate in hot, standup sex in the kitchen around all of the broken glass was the real kicker.

Mommy?...why is that man rubbing that woman's...ssssshhhh.

Sorry, I liked Cinderella Man, but I thought Million Dollar Baby was superior. Even though CM is based on a true story, I felt manipulated; something I always get from a Ron Howard movie. Million Dollar Baby was much more engaging, it "felt" real. I don't know any other way to describe it.

Hmmm. I can understand your point of view. At times, RH's directorial mechanics can be a little more exposed than you'd like making it feel like he's jerking around your emotions with a gloved fist.

---SPOILER ALERT---
I like Clint E. movies and think he does a good job as a director but I just couldn't get past the "I'm paralyzed so I'm not worth anything now and you should just kill me" issue. It might be more 'real' but it did knock the movie down a notch or to for me.
