RIO Carbon
After the Muvo^2 got left at swim lessons, I started thinking about a replacement. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to replace the Muvo with another Muvo especially considering how long it took to get the first two.
After some investigation I came across the RIO Carbon. A very small & sleek MP3 player with more features and a larger hard drive. The RIO Carbon uses a Seagate 5G compact flash compatible micro-drive. The RIO has a built in voice recorder, software to build playlists, automatic categorization by album, genre, and author, a reported 20 hr battery life (!), a stainless steel case, along with some other anciallary features (e.g. stopwatch).
I'm happy with the player so far. The software is very easy to use to build playlists. It had no trouble whatsoever using the information in my iTunes collection. The headphone jack has some "seating" issue but that's the only one I've found so far.
Large LCD and "joystick". The bezel around the joystick is also used as a selection mechanism. The small hole just above the upper right hand corner of the LCD is the microphone for the voice recorder.
Left to Right: Volume and "mouse" selector/scroll wheel, reset "hole", headphone jack, USB 2, & Power. Just below the selector wheel is a switch for bringup of a menu of options.
The battery is recharged over the USB cable from your computer or an innovative adapter that plugs into a standard outlet with a large USB port on the other side of the tiny adapter "brick".
Cool red LEDs that light up the RIO logo and "mouse" bezel. The LEDs fade out with the backlight using the same configuration parameters to save power.
